The #CBDMovement

So How Does CBD Work?

There are over 100 known cannabinoid compounds derived from marijuana and hemp. As a cannabinoid compound, CBD stimulates similar cannabinoid receptors in our nervous system as THC, but instead of making you "high", CBD has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, antipsychotic, and neuroprotective properties. In fact, many studies show that CBD can actually counteract some of the paranoia and anxiety that can be associated with pure THC use.

How is CBD Different From THC

To put it simply, both CBD and THC can affect the brain. While THC's effect on the brain creates a psychoactive reaction, CBD on the other hand alters the brain's perception of pain, increases the brain's "happy" chemicals (serotonin), and inhibits inflammation from developing.

How is CBD Derived

CBD can be extracted from either the marijuana plant or the hemp plant. Most people don't realize that hemp-derived CBD has actually been legal for quite some time, since it has virtually no psychoactive effects at all (hemp extracts contain about 0.3% of THC). Chemically, there is no real difference between CBD from hemp or marijuana. However, if you are at risk of drug testing, it is probably safer to use a topical, hemp-derived source of CBD.

How Does One Use CBD

CBD can be used in various different forms. Topical applications are my personal favorite due to the safety and immediate efficacy. Simple Health carries a brand of CBD creams called CBD Clinic, with varying degrees of strength for all sorts of musculoskeletal pain ranging from mild to severe.

CBD also can be ingested in oil or capsule form, or smoked in various different ways. For people who are ingesting CBD in oil form (either as drops or capsules), you would have to consume very large quantities of it (1000-2000mg per day) for it to possibly show up with a (false) positive on a urine THC test. If you are only using the topical CBD cream, especially a hemp-derived cream, for localized areas of pain, the chances for testing positive on a urine THC test are very very minimal.

If you would like to nix the pain medications and give CBD a try, stop by Simple Health some time and ask about the CBD products we have.
