Sciatica is a nerve condition that occurs when pain radiates along your sciatic nerve from the lower back to the leg and foot. It commonly develops when a herniated disc compresses the spine, however, other causes like bone spurs, extra weight on the spine, or tightening of the piriformis muscle deep within the glute can also cause similar symptoms to occur. Sciatica can be acute or chronic, mild or severe, one sided or both sided, depending on the causal factor. It is also frequently accompanied by numbness, tingling, and muscle weakness.
